Researchers from Poland and Belarus exchanged experiences in collaborative robotics applications during a workshop organised by the Eastern Partnership Connect (EaPConnect) project at the end of November.

High-speed network connectivity for remote collaboration creates an opportunity to boost cooperation in solving challenges related to the application of complex robotic systems in key areas such as smart living spaces, precision farming or crisis management. The Eastern Neighbourhood collaboration on Future Internet services and applications workshop showed that European and Eastern Partnership researchers share views on future smart environments integrating Internet of Things and robots around humans.

The workshop was hosted on 29-30 November 2016 by the Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSNC), the operator of the Polish national research and education network (NREN). The two-day workshop allowed researchers from PSNC and from the Belarus United Institute of Informatics Problems of the National Academy of Sciences (UIIP NAS) – the organisation behind the Belarusian NREN, BASNET – to visit PSNC laboratories and explore how they could collaborate together on future projects.

The event was organised as part of EaPConnect activities aimed at facilitating participation of Eastern Neighbourhood scientists, students and academics in international research and education collaborations. It included training on the eduGAIN interfederation service and sessions of brainstorming on Future Internet applications.

EaPConnect aims to support follow up actions in 2017, to enable remote experiments in collaborative robotics that would performed via the connection of the GÉANT network.
