The Institute of Informatics and Automation Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia (IIAP NAS RA) has started a collaboration with The Cyprus Institute and Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, North Macedonia, on Erasmus K1 projects. This partnership aims to strengthen international academic networks, promote innovative research, and encourage cross-border knowledge exchange.
The recent visit of Dr. Andreas Athenodorou from The Cyprus Institute and Prof. Anastas Mishev from the Cyril and Methodius University to the IIAP highlighted ongoing research at their respective institutions and the potential for future collaboration in areas of computational physics, machine learning, and quantum computing.
Collaborative Research and Knowledge Exchange
The meeting featured presentations om groundbreaking research in theoretical particle physics, high-performance computing, and computational science. Dr. Athenodorou shared his expertise in SU(N) Gauge Theories and lattice gauge theory simulations, while Prof. Mishev discussed his work in high-performance computing and collaborative computing infrastructures. Their presentations emphasised the potential for joint research initiatives and technological innovations.
Seminar on Quantum Computing
Dr. Athenodorou also led a seminar on “Introduction to Quantum Computing”, offering insights into this rapidly evolving field and its transformative impact on research and technology. The seminar covered the theoretical underpinnings of quantum computing and its future applications across various scientific disciplines.
Strengthening Global Academic Partnerships
This collaboration is a significant step for the Institute in its mission to build a global network of research institutions. By partnering with leading European centres, the Institute aims to enhance its research capabilities, particularly in computational science and quantum technologies. The Erasmus K1 programme facilitates such international partnerships to improve the quality and global reach of higher education and research.
These collaborations are made possible through the essential hard and soft resources, and services—including connectivity and computing—provided with the support of the EaPConnect project to ASNET-AM, the Armenian National Research and Education Network, ensuring our long-term sustainability”.
This collaboration marks an important milestone in advancing global scientific partnerships and furthering innovation in research and technology.
