Thanks to the EU-funded EaPConnect project, the Belarusian research and education network BASNET has launched eduroam at the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics (BSUIR). Since the beginning of March 2018, the secure world-wide education roaming access service has replaced the internal university network to ease a free WiFi-connectivity for the Belarusian and international research and education community.

The mobility of students and researchers between institutions and countries is getting higher and higher. Thanks to the eduroam service it is not necessary to create temporary accounts for students and visitors to connected organisations. eduroam provides wireless Internet access for all students and employees, as well as to guests from organisations participating in eduroam. The service is completely free for users, as well as for universities and colleges that install it.

BSUIR is the industry-leading educational establishment in Belarus and a basic CIS Belarusian organisation for higher education in computer science and radio electronics. Over 16 thousand undergraduate, Master, PhD and postdoctoral students are currently studying there, covering 39 degree programmes. It has 9 faculties, 37 academic departments, a R&D Unit, and an Institute of Information Technologies with 2 faculties and 3 academic departments, 3 stand-alone business units.

BASNET has deployed 55 eduroam access points at different localities to provide a stable WiFi network across the BSUIR campus.
