Challenges and solutions were explored in a conference on ‘Actual multidisciplinary scientific-practical problems of information security’ on 14 December 2018. The IV Republican Conference was held at the Institute of Information Technology of ANAS in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Researchers and experts in the field of information technology (IT) from the country’s relevant government agencies, universities, research institutes of ANAS and media representatives took part in the conference. The event was organised by the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan and the Institute of Information Technology of ANAS.
President of ANAS Academician Akif Alizadeh opened the event, saying that information security is one of the most actual scientific problems of the global information society, and, with its multidisciplinary character, is of great importance.
In recent years, works on legislation, infrastructure, personnel training, awareness raising, etc. have been conducted to strengthen information security in our country. For this purpose, the law ‘On Protection of Children from Harmful Information’ was adopted, the National Strategy on Information Security of the Republic of Azerbaijan was developed, and other works were implemented. The activity of AzScienceNet, which is a national operator of science and education networks, providing integration of Azerbaijani science into European science, providing high-quality Internet services to scientific institutions and organisations of ANAS, is also related to information security.”
In a plenary session, Academician-secretary of ANAS, director of the Institute of Information Technology, academician Rasim Alguliyev delivered a presentation on ‘Information Security as a Key Component of National Security’. He said that information security is of strategic importance as one of the key components of the national security of each state. The scientist talked about the threats to information and communication systems, the protection of electronic resources and the formation of digital heritage, and the problems of child protection in the Internet environment. The scientist also put forward his proposals on the development of the normative legal basis for information security in Azerbaijan.
Technical Director Rashid Alakbarov introduced a presentation on ‘Information Security Issues of AzScienceNet Science Computer Network’. Then, head of department Ramiz Aliguliyev delivered a presentation on ‘Methods for Detecting Some Threats to National Security in e-Government’.
Sessions on ‘Scientific-Theoretical Problems of Information Security’, ‘Humanitarian Problems of Information Security’ and ‘Practical Problems of Information Security’ included presentations on different topics and paved the way to interesting discussions among participants and possible solutions to tackle the problems presented.
