A high-level agreement was signed on 22 June 2018, strengthening the cooperation of Azerbaijan’s higher education institutions with European science and education institutions. The signing took place during a meeting to present the EU-funded Eastern Partnership Connect (EaPConnect) project and its contributions to science and education integration in Azerbaijan.

Heads of the Azerbaijan Ministry of Education, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Transport, Communication and High Technologies, as well as leading universities and research institutes and representatives of EaPConnect joined the head of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, ANAS, to discuss the “role of the GÉANT network in the integration of Azerbaijan science and education into Europe”.

The cooperation agreement was signed on behalf of AzScienceNet by the President of ANAS, academician Akif Alizadeh; the Minister of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov signed on behalf of the Educational System Informatisation Department.

The agreement envisages the effective use of the European Union’s EaPConnect project by scientific and education institutions of Azerbaijan, strengthening the cooperation of the country’s higher education institutions with European science and education institutions and granting broadband network services to the country’s higher education institutions by joining the GÉANT pan-European network within the EaPConnect project.
