The first Grid facility at the Institute of Physics in Azerbaijan has a long term cooperation with CERN and the United Nations Nuclear Research Institute (International Research Centre of Russia). Recently, the national research and education network AzScienceNet upgraded the network infrastructure of the Grid centre and gave access to the pan-European GÉANT research and education network. Thanks to the EU-funded EapConnect project, the Grid centre, which has been actively participating in international projects such as CERN’s ‘Atlas’, now has high-speed and reliable connectivity to GÉANT.
AzScienceNet supports Grid development in Azerbaijan’s research institutes and plans to establish a second Grid center which will use the facilities of the Institute of Information Technology’s data centre to offer Grid services to more organisations. The Institute of Physics will use the second Grid centre for a further cooperation with CERN.
