On 18 March 2022 the EC Directorate Generale Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR) formally notified GÉANT of the decision, following the involvement of Belarus in the Russian military aggression in Ukraine, to suspend all planned and ongoing programmes and activities with the participation of Belarusian public authorities and state-owned enterprises. As the result of this decision BASNET (the United Institute of Informatics Problems of National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (UIIP NASB)) ceased to be a co-beneficiary of the EaPConnect project.
In these tragic and difficult times we would like to take the opportunity to recognise BASNET’s enthusiastic and effective participation in the EaPConnect project since its start in 2015.
BASNET’s contribution to the R&E communities in the EaP region includes collaborative activities such as working with RENAM (Moldova) to successfully apply LoLa data transmission technology, the preservation of the Radziwills library heritage and the provision of technical support and expertise to improve medical diagnosis and treatment through the use of Artificial Intelligence.
Although BASNET has been ceased as a partner in the EAPConnect2 and the GN4-3 project, the Belarusian NREN remains a member of the GÉANT Association.
