The conference “Green and Digital Transformations: Mutual Effects, Positive and Negative Aspects” addressing the growing intersection of digital and green transitions in the context of global sustainability efforts, took place in Baku, Azerbaijan in November 2024. The event was organised in collaboration with several key Azerbaijani institutions, including the Institute of Information Technology, Azerbaijan Technical University, the National Aerospace Agency, the Institute of Ecology, and the Institute of Radiation Problems.
The conference highlighted both the challenges and opportunities posed by the ongoing green and digital transformations, particularly as they relate to pressing global priorities such as climate change and sustainable development.
A distinguished group of experts and institutional leaders attended the opening ceremony, which was presided over by prominent figures from Azerbaijan’s academic and scientific communities.
In his opening remarks, Rasim Alguliyev emphasised the critical role of research in advancing green digital technologies.
“Our main goal is to reduce the environmental impact of ICT and digital technologies, while also addressing challenges related to the creation of a green society and economy through the application of artificial intelligence.”
Following the opening ceremony, the conference continued with two main sessions: “Digital Technologies in the Formation of a Green Society” and “Scientific and Practical Problems of the Transition to a Green Economy.”
These sessions, which took place in the context of COP29, promoted in-depth discussions on how digital and green technologies can play transformative roles in fighting climate change and enabling a transition to a sustainable economy. Presenters shared their visions on a range of topics, engaging in an active exchange of ideas to explore the mutual benefits and potential challenges of these twin transitions.
The conference served as an important platform for advancing a dialogue on the intersection of digital innovation and environmental sustainability, offering a space for experts to collaborate on solutions that can drive both technological advancement and ecological responsibility.
